My work explores the quiet beauty of everyday objects through the medium of watercolour. I am particularly drawn to the way light transforms simple subjects — how it falls on glass, petals, fabric, or weathered surfaces and creates reflections, shadows, and subtle patterns.Still life and floral subjects appear frequently in my paintings. These themes allow me to slow down and observe closely the delicate relationships between light, colour, texture, and form. Many of my compositions are set against dark backgrounds, where strong contrasts help bring out the luminous quality of watercolour and lend a sense of depth and mystery to the subject.Working in watercolour is both challenging and deeply rewarding. I enjoy the balance between the fluid nature of the medium and the discipline required to guide it with control and precision. Through careful observation and layered washes, I aim to capture the personality of simple objects and the quiet drama created by light. For me, painting is an ongoing process of discovery. Each work becomes an opportunity to look more closely, to understand light more deeply, and to reveal the beauty that often lies unnoticed in everyday life.

Artist Biography
Shiva is a self-taught watercolour artist based in Bangalore. She is known for her realistic still life and floral paintings, where light, texture, and colour play a central role.
Her interest in art began early in childhood through drawing, painting, craft, and writing poetry. Although she later pursued a Master’s degree in Business Administration, her passion for art remained constant. With encouragement from her husband, she returned to painting and eventually devoted herself fully to her artistic practice. After initially working in oils, she discovered her true affinity with watercolour.
Growing up close to nature continues to influence her work, particularly in her floral paintings. Alongside flowers and still life subjects, she enjoys exploring challenging reflective forms such as glass and crystal. Her paintings often feature strong contrasts and rich colour, capturing the interplay of light and shadow on everyday objects.
In addition to her studio practice, Shiva is passionate about teaching and enjoys sharing her knowledge of watercolour with students of all levels.
Her work has been exhibited in various shows and is held in private collections.
