About the artist
Shiva is a watercolor artist from Bangalore and is recognized for realistic still life and floral paintings.
She is fascinated by light and how objects soaked in sunlight cast beautiful shadow patterns. Reflections, and textures often catch her attention. Most of her paintings have a dark background as she believes that accentuated contrast creates mystery in her work and also strengthens the personality of her subjects.
Watercolor is usually associated with unpredictability and chaos on paper, Shiva likes to tame this medium to create highly detailed and realistic images.
She slowly builds layers in her work, working on one section at a time and completely immerses in the meditative process of painting.
Teaching comes naturally to her and she tries to balance her studio painting time with her love to impart her knowledge to enthusiastic students.
Shiva has exhibited her works in various shows and her paintings are held in private collections.

Artist statement
My Story
I am Shiva - An artist, a mentor and a mother.
As a little girl I enjoyed drawing, painting, doing craft projects and writing poetries.
I wanted to be a doctor like my father but did masters in business administration. My husband encouraged me to pursue painting; little did I know that I would make a career in art. I started with oils but found my true calling in watercolors.
I find inspiration all around me. My subject matter is varied but still life and florals are prominent. I was fortunate to grow up very close to nature and painting flowers bring back my childhood memories. I often come out of my comfort zone and try challenging subjects like glass and crystals. I arrange my own still life compositions and photograph them in sunlight to create reference material for my paintings.
I believe my work is constantly evolving and I grow with every painting. I paint what fires my imagination, inspires me or challenges me. I am not sure where this journey is headed but I am passionately enjoying the ride.
My focused studio time is very important to me and so is my passion to share my knowledge with students of all levels .
When not painting I can be found spending quality time with my husband and two beautiful daughters.
Its a privilege to live life as an artist, to see the beauty and artistic potential in everyday objects and to paint what I really love!
